In the past Rusty played in several (mostly instrumental) bands like Revolution, Dominion and Outworld. In 1998 he had the chance to join the band Haij’s Kitchen, but he declined due to relocation problems. In 2001 Rusty released a two-disc instructional cd-rom titled “Shred Guitar Manifesto”.As the title of this cd-rom already may suggest, Rusty is a very fast guitarist. Most of the songs on his first album are over the top instrumental guitar compositions. But he always tries to use nice themes and melodies.Rusty’s compositions remind me especially of other guitarists like Todd Duane, Jason Becker and Joey Tafolla.
His album reminds me a lot of Tafolla’s first album “Out Of The Sun”.There are also 2 bonus tracks on this album (vocal versions of 2 of his instrumental compositions) which are influenced by 80’s technical, guitar dominated bands like Elegy and Racer X.This is a release mainly for guitarfreaks, but also fans of technical metal with vocals will love this album.
